Are you like this? While at work, I often think about sewing—what I’d like to make, how I’d make it, what fabrics I might need to purchase(!), etc. But by the time I get home, I’m exhausted, and I often don’t have the gumption to cut out whatever it is I’d been thinking about during the day.
So, I’m trying something new to me—and this is something I know I’ve read about on other blogs, so it is hardly original. This is what I’m trying: On Sunday, I cut out eight items—two casual jackets, four shells, and two pairs of pants. I put each cut and marked item in its own zip lock baggie, along with (if needed) cut interfacing and elastic. My hope is that having these kits will help me over the I’m-just-too-tired hump that I’ve been facing after work—because I really do enjoy sewing once I start, but I’m not a fan of cutting things out. We’ll see! What do you do? Do you have any tricks to keep your sewing on track?
Happy sewing! ~ Peggy
It sounds like a good plan to me. I often have to get a project marked and cut one week and sew it the next.
ReplyDeleteI do this quite often. Haven't yet for my fall/winter sewing for this year. I use the plastic zipper bags that sheets/pillowcases come in for my projects. I put all notions, patterns, fabrics, etc. in the bags so that when I am ready to sew I can just choose a project and go with it! Have fun! I hope this helps you find sewing time!
ReplyDeleteI too detest cutting out but once I have started to sew something I then seem to find the will to continue. So sometimes I just force myself to sew even when not completely in the mood. Sewing in small sessions seems to help too.
ReplyDeleteI find that this is a great way to get a my sewing mojo back after tiring days. Cutting out takes time and I need patience to do my marking but then sewing time is so much more enjoyable. It's one of the major reasons that I use a dozen tried and true patterns over and over.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I'm not alone! So far, this system has helped me tremendously. Of course, nothing I've cut out is a new pattern or very complicated for that matter, but they're all things I will wear. I'm really enjoying this! ~ Peggy
ReplyDeleteHi Peggy, what a great idea - kind of like coming home from the market and cleaning & prepping all the fresh produce you just bought so you'll actually use it. I may try your idea! (of course, lettuce goes bad while fabric does not... lol)
